Exactly 30 years after the original Toy Story film was released, establishing Pixar as a leading animation studio and introducing viewers to beloved characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a brief look into the storyline but keeping viewers wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys

The preview shows the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a latest toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser doesn't touch on is what Woody is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping giveaway items find good homes.

Surely, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The final act Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the insignia pinned to her outfit.

Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
