Approximately 25,000 households in Queensland's southeast found themselves without power on the start of the week after powerful weather events impacted the state, generating powerful gusts topping over 100 km/h.

Substantial Ice Stones and Widespread Impact

Homeowners reported large ice chunks as large as 7 centimeters in certain regions. Meteorological experts announced that different parts across the state had been impacted by substantial ice precipitation.

Emergency crews were working to restore electricity service throughout the impacted areas, with approximately seventy teams working to address the widespread outages.

Southern State's Storm Challenges

At the same time, approximately one thousand households in the southern state also encountered electricity disruptions after the capital city saw its most precipitation in over 500 days.

State Emergency Services handled over five hundred requests for assistance across the area, mostly for building damage but also for collapsed vegetation and inundation.

At one point on Sunday, over twenty-eight thousand power users in the state were without power.

Climate Outlook

Damp conditions were predicted to continue along much of Queensland's east this coming days as a weather pattern continued to pull in damp air against the coastal areas.

Tuesday was forecast to be the heaviest precipitation period, with persistent thunderstorm potential expected across different parts of both areas.

Medical authorities alerted that there was an increased chance of weather-related respiratory issues across the northern rural areas, particularly given the current weather patterns.
